THE inquest into the death of a woman from Workington who 'likely' died from injuries sustained during a resuscitation attempt has been opened.
Julie Penrice, 58, died at the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle on February 10, 2024, where she was admitted after she collapsed.
Assistant coroner for Cumbria, Robert Cohen, said that Ms Penrice had a history of alcohol-related liver disease and cirrhosis, as well as oesophageal varices.
Referring to her admission to hospital in Carlisle, Mr Cohen said that attempts were made to resuscitate Ms Penrice.
However, she suffered a haemothorax (the collection of blood in the pleural cavity), during the course of the resuscitation attempts.
Mr Cohen said it 'seems likely' that this was the cause of her death.
He set a preliminary date for a final inquest to be heard into Ms Penrice's death for November 28.
