A Cumbrian visitor attraction has won the highest award in its category by a national tourism awards body.
The Beacon Museum in Whitehaven has claimed top honours at the national VisitEngland Visitor Attraction Accolades, securing the highest award in its category for 2023-24.
Recognised for delivering outstanding visitor experiences, the museum is one of only 20 attractions in England to receive the prestigious Gold award in the Visitor Attraction category.
The accolade places The Beacon Museum among an exclusive group of 72 attractions nationwide celebrated for excellence.
VisitEngland’s director, Andrew Stokes, said: "These accolades highlight the wonderful visitor experiences provided by visitor attractions, from the warmest of welcome to amazing food and drink, from great storytelling to outstanding customer service."
The Beacon Museum joins other celebrated Cumbrian attractions in this year’s honours, including The Lakes Distillery in Cockermouth and Whinlatter Forest in Keswick, both of which also received the Gold award.
Other Cumbrian winners included Levens Hall & Gardens in Kendal, commended for its food and drink, and Mountain Goat Tours and Holidays in Windermere, which also received the Gold accolade for outstanding tour services.
