An auction will feature a recently discovered painting by a 19th-century Cumbrian artist.

Laidlaw's will be selling the painting by William James Blacklock, alongside other notable items, on November 9.

Blacklock's recently discovered work, an atmospheric study of Hermitage Castle in the Scottish Borders, was previously exhibited at the Royal Academy before his untimely death at the age of just 42.

Laidlaw's has described the painting as a 'romanticised view of the Medieval Scottish stronghold', which epitomises the artist's unique style.

He later apprenticed to Carlisle publisher Charles Thurnam and was taught by Matthew Ellis Nutter at the Academy of Art in Carlisle.

Blacklock achieved great success and renown, with his works being praised by influential artists such as JMW Turner.

Other notable items going under the hammer include a 1950s Rolex Oyster Perpetual Air-King wristwatch, a signed portrait of Sir Winston Churchill, and a collection of electric guitars.

These guitars carry pre-sale estimates of £800 to £1,200 and £1,000 to £2,000, respectively.

These items are part of a sophisticated collection of medals, badges, and militaria that will be appearing in the auction as well as future sales.
