RESPONCE officers were called to Alston earlier this week - after it was reported that there were 'suspicious people' with torches in the area of the railway station.

Police were called to Alston on Tuesday evening, October 29 to investigate a report of 'suspicious persons' with torches seen at the South Tynedale Railway Station.

The suspects were said to have ran away when they were disturbed.

Police will now be patrolling the area as routine and have asked the public to continue alerting them to any 'suspicious activity' in the area.

In a social media post yesterday, Eden police said: "Response colleagues were in Alston last night to investigate suspicious persons with torches sighted at South Tynedale Railway Station who ran away when disturbed.

"I am patrolling tonight and this area will continue be part of my routine patrol - please report any further suspicious activity to us."
