AN inquest has been opened into the death of a 39-year-old man who was found dead at his home Whitehaven by mental health workers.
Jon Liam Pears Norman, of Birley Court, died on June 5, 2024.
Assistant Coroner for Cumbria Margaret Taylor said Mr Norman had been seen by his father on the day before his death.
In a brief hearing at Cockermouth Coroner's Court, Ms Taylor said that Mr Norman had seen his father at 'around dinnertime' on June 4, and that he 'had no concerns' about his son.
She said that when he was visited on the day of his death by the mental health team, they had not received a response to knocking and so visited his father's flat to ask him when he had last seen his son.
He was able to give them a key to his son's property.
On entering the flat, the mental health workers found him dead on the sofa, the hearing heard.
Ms Taylor said a post-mortem examination had been carried out, which offered a cause of death of aspiration of gastric contents, and the use of the drugs.
She adjourned the hearing until a provisional final hearing date on November 28, 2024.
