A CUMBRIAN doctor has organised an event to celebrate Diwali this year.
Diwali is the Hindu festival of light with other variations being celebrated in other Indian religions like Jainism and Sikhism.
It celebrates the spiritual victory of good over evil and knowledge over ignorance. The celebrations for the occasion generally last five or six days.
NHS consultant Mr Raj Dharmarajan has organised an event in Carlisle to celebrate the occasion.
In a post on social media, North Cumbria Integrated Care (NCIC) wrote: "May this Diwali bring warmth, happiness, and prosperity to you and your family. Wishing you a bright and joyful Diwali!
"Today is Diwali, which is known as the Festival of Lights and is celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs, and Jains.
"One of NCIC’s consultants, Mr Raj Dharmarajan, has helped organise an event in Carlisle, along with Cumbria Hindi Association. It will take place at the Box Arena, Portland Place, off Botchergate, on November 9 from 5.30pm to 11.30pm.
"There will be a cultural programme as well as food, a DJ and music.
"Tickets are £15 for children aged two to 12 and £30 for those aged 12 and over."
