PLANS to replace seven storage containers in Workington have been approved by planners at Cumberland Council.

The planning application was for a site at Chimney Sheep in Derwent Drive and permission was granted subject to conditions.

According to the application the containers will be housed in a steel framed free-standing warehouse building on an area of existing car park.

And, according to the officer's report, the application site comprises an industrial structure with associated parking to the front and side, situated on an industrial estate in Workington.

It states: "A footpath is situated to the rear of the site, with a railway line beyond. Access to the site is available via Lawrence Street and Chapel Road. The building and site were formerly used as a bowling alley.

"Planning permission for change of use of the main building to a distribution and storage building as well as for the siting of seven storage containers, which are currently in place, was granted under application FUL/2022/0069."

According to the report the proposal involves the removal of seven temporary storage containers to the side of the application building, to be replaced with a permanent building.

It states: "The building would be located to the eastern side of the existing car park. The building would have a footprint of 22m by 13.5m, a height to eaves of 4.8m and an overall height of approximately 7.35m.

"Finishes include profiled powder metal sheet roof and walls to match the main building. Roof lights would be inserted into the roof slopes and solar panels to the rear facing roof slope."

The decision to grant planning permission was made last Monday(October 28) and the report concludes: "The proposal complies with current planning policy and is recommended for approval."
