A CARLISLE listed building can be renovated planners at Cumberland Council have ruled.
The application was for an address Chiswick Street and planning permission was granted on Monday (November 4) subject to planning conditions.
It was for repairs and upgrading of the existing house together with the removal of degraded windows to be replaced with timber sash windows.
In addition, at the rear of the property, Cumbrian sandstone slabs would be used to make good and form a usable city garden as well as creating off street parking with more sandstone slabs laid to the front of the property.
According to a planning report the building is Grade II Listed and part of a terrace which dates to the late 1860s or early 1870s.
The report adds: "There is a degree of diversity, with some buildings showing some architectural extravagance. There is also a variation in brickwork across the street, with some buildings exhibiting the distinctive Carlisle chequerboard brickwork and some very plain.
"This suggests that a variety of builders were engaged in the completion of these streets which gives it diversity within an overall framework. With Chiswick Street listed in its entirety, it remains one of the best preserved and most pleasant streets within the city."
The report concludes that, in overall terms, the proposal is compliant with planning regulations including the Carlisle District Local Plan 2015-2030.
