AN overnight dispersal order is being enforced in Workington town centre.
The order, which starts at 5pm today (November 5), will remain in effect until 7am on Wednesday, November 6.
A dispersal order is a significant police power, introduced in 2003, designed to prevent public disorder and anti-social behaviour. Under a dispersal order, police officers can direct groups of people to leave a designated area. Non-compliance may lead to arrest.
The Bonfire night dispersal order is aimed at individuals intending to cause "harassment, alarm, or distress."
Police are encouraging residents to enjoy Bonfire Night safely, but caution that those engaging in anti-social behaviour may face arrest if they don't comply.
Parents are also being urged to be aware of their children's whereabouts.
A similar order was put in place over Halloween in the town.
