A CUMBRIAN holiday park has apologised after attendees at a 'bangless' fireworks display at the venue were left 'shocked' when the 'first firework went up'... and banging started.
Solway Holiday Park, a self-catering family holiday park in Silloth, has apologised to the public following a 'bangless firework display' held as part of their Cove Fest-ive event on Friday, November 1.
Following the start of the bangless fireworks display, attendees were shocked to see the display included loud fireworks, with distress being caused to some animals who had been brought to the event, according to the organisers.
One disgruntled community member said: "I was shocked when the first firework went up and the banging started.
"I was going to take my dog with me but I am so pleased she didn't want to go out".
'Bangless' fireworks - quiet or low-noise alternatives to the traditional kind - provide a display that is more friendly to pets and animals.
The holiday park have since apologised for the display, which they say was down to a supplier not providing the fireworks which festival organisers were expecting.
The holiday park has 'sincerely apologised' for to anyone who was affected by the display, and has said they will be donating £1,500 to a local animal or pet charity to make up for any distress caused to animals during the display.
In a statement on social media, Solway Holiday Park said: "We were excited to host an event for the community and raise funds for charity but unfortunately, the fireworks were not what we had ordered or were expecting, and we have expressed our disappointment to our supplier and are awaiting a response.
"We sincerely apologise to anyone who was affected last night.
"We are also aware that owners, guests and locals had brought their pets along with them last night and this caused distress for the animals.
"As a result, we will be donating £1,500 to a local animal/pet charity."
It is understood that Cove Holidays is still investigating the situation at the Solway Holiday Park with the provider of the fireworks.
The event was run over three days and included an ice rink, festive market, funfair, santa visits and live music throughout the weekend.
