A popular fish and chip shop is celebrating after being named a finalist in a national award.

SALT Fish & Chips in Seascale has been recognised as a finalist in the 2024 Peter Hill Award.

The award, launched last year in memory of Middleton Foods' CEO Peter Hill, aims to recognise newcomers to the industry, promote quality, and encourage new talent.

Ryan Baker, sales manager at Middleton Foods, said: "Huge congratulations to SALT Fish & Chips on being recognised as one of this year’s finalists!

"We launched The Peter Hill Award last year in memory of our great friend and CEO, Peter Hill and following its tremendous success, we decided to bring it back – even bigger than before.

"We have received a fantastic number of entries, and we are delighted to continue recognising more newcomers to the industry, encourage new talent, promote quality and excellence and give something back to the trade."

Benjamen Seed, SALT owner, said: "We are thrilled to have been short-listed for The Peter Hill Award and we are very much looking forward to the next stage of the competition.

"None of this would have been possible without our great suppliers, wonderful customers and our extremely hard-working and diligent team.

"Thanks to you all."

The winner and runners-up of The Peter Hill Award 2024 will be announced by the end of November, following the next stage in judging – a visit from Nikki Williams, KFE field sales manager.

The winner will receive prizes worth more than £15,000, including £1,000 worth of Middleton Foods stock, a bespoke batter mix, and two places at the KFE School of Frying Excellence.

Middleton Foods created The Peter Hill Award to keep their friend Mr Hill’s memory alive.

The company thanked the independent expert judging panel – Fred Capel, Nigel Hodgson and Calum Richardson – as well as KFE and NFFF for their support.
