A WEST Cumbrian cafe will be hosting its first-ever Book Swap event.

Howling Wolf will be hosting their Book Swap event at their cafe under The Beacon museum in Whitehaven

The event will take place on Friday, November 8, as part of a collaboration with Richardsons of Whitehaven, everyone will be given a copy of 'Whitehaven Under the Queen's Reign' written by Gerard Richardson.

Carmina Andra, the owner of Howling Wolf Cafe, said: "I am an avid reader, and before opening the café, I had this mental image of myself sitting at the window with a good book and a steamy cup of tea or coffee.

"I took most of the books I had at home and installed the bookcases in the cafe, thinking I would spend a lot of time reading. However, since opening Howling Wolf, my leisure time has been drastically reduced.

"I miss connecting with other people to talk about books, and I rarely have the time to go shopping for new titles.

"Since many visitors expressed their desire for bookish events in the cafe, I hope this event will be the start of a new tradition.

"I believe this event could help the community of readers connect for an afternoon of book-related discussions, where we could all find new titles to read this autumn, exchange stories, and build friendships around our favourite authors.

"In the future, we plan to organise more events of this nature and hopefully include visits from local authors."

Mr Richardson added: "Carmina is a lovely person and I admire all their efforts to make a successful of the Cafe, I think the book swap is a cracking idea, so we are delighted to play a part in making it a big success.

"The book was the first one I wrote, and it was in collaboration with the Whitehaven News and Ivor Nicholas. It depicts the changes to the town during her Majesties reign and was released as a special tribute following her memorable visit in 2008."
