A RETIREMENT home in Penrith is up for sale with plans to 'withdraw care' services due to the 'financial viability' of the site.
The Methodist Homes Association (MHA) has decided to sell 14 schemes following a review that began in 2022, with the assisted living facility on Bridge Lane, Woodlands, being among six that will also have care services removed.
The charity said the decision was made to ensure its services are 'fit for the future' and financially sustainable, after facing challenges such as the pandemic, workforce issues, and the cost-of-living crisis.
A statement on the group’s website states that if no buyer comes forward, residents and families can 'be assured' they will not close any scheme and 'no one will lose their home'.

“The 14 schemes that we are placing on the market will enable us to move to a more focussed portfolio and make best use of our resources, whilst making sure they continue to offer vibrant communities for those who live there,” the statement reads.
“The decision to remove care from the schemes is based on financial viability. The services are not sustainable, and we are unable to continue operating them at a loss.
“Affected residents and colleagues have been told about the removal of this service and we will work with residents to find a new care provider. We will not remove care from the service until all residents have a new provider in place.
“We are confident that new owners will be found for these schemes, each of which is a vibrant community and represents a great opportunity for the right organisation.
“If no buyer comes forward, however, people can be safe in the knowledge we will not be closing any scheme, and no one will lose their home,” the group states.
The group states they expect the sale process to take around eight months.
