ONE of Carlisle's favourite restaurants has added a splash of colour to Fisher Street with the official opening of its new bar area.

The Old Bank has spent the past six months planning and designing its expansion into the adjacent unit next door.

At a launch event (November 7), the new unique and quirky bar opened to let guests experience 'a little escape from the ordinary'.

The new drinking lounge, which connects to Carlisle’s number one restaurant on TripAdvisor, aims to accommodate 20 to 25 customers on a first-come, first-served basis.

Owner Matt Rayson said they are 'overwhelmed' by the 'incredible support' they have received.

"In a world where the high street feels quieter and businesses face tough times, we’re proud to say that we are growing, we are thriving, and we are expanding," he said.

He thanked those who helped make the new bar area a reality, including the architect and planner, Neil Withington, and builders Matt Ballard and James Bell.

He also extended his gratitude to his family, who he said provided the 'finishing touches' and kept him 'sane through all this'.

"We can't wait to welcome you all in soon.

"A huge thank you to the incredible people who helped make this dream a reality," he said.

The entrance to the new bar area is via The Old Bank restaurant.

Plans to 'cement' The Old Bank's space on Fisher Street follows after Castle Chocolates took over from the 'First We Eat' deli unit further down the street at the end of August.

Cumberland Council granted planning permission for the extension earlier this year.
