A popular antique shop in Carlisle has said that it is 'over the moon' as it celebrates its eighth anniversary.
Cathedral Lodge Antiques was opened in November 2016 by Martyn and Jen Nichol who have a rich background in local antiques with the pair formerly running a number of different antique collections and fairs in the local area.
On Friday, November 8, the husband and wife duo celebrated their eighth year owning their beloved antique store.
After the shop celebrated its eighth anniversary, Jen was on hand to express her delight and discuss her and her husband's passion for antiques.
She said: "Eight years ago I was terrified opening up a shop and taking that commitment.
"We are over the moon to reach eight years, we are in a fabulous location and we love our little shop.
"We have made some lovely friends who started as customers and it is just lovely being here."
Jen also discussed the mountain of support the shop has received during its eight years in Carlisle, with people from all over the world visiting to inspect their wares.
She said: "It really means a lot to us. We have got a loyal band of followers but we also get an awful lot of tourists with us being on the tourist trail and in the historic quarter.
"We have had lovely comments from people all around the world saying what a fabulous shop we have and comments on our range of antiques.
"We have everything here from dining tables and sideboards to diamond rings and old coins."
For Jen, there is a hope that antiques will soon come back into fashion with a younger generation that is looking for more sustainable options.
She said: "We are the ultimate in recycling. We are hopeful that we are going to come back into fashion with the younger generation.
"You can go to Ikea and spend hundreds of pounds on a chest of drawers and five down years the line it needs chopped up and put in the bin.
"In here you can spend a fraction of the price and get a chest of drawers and you will have it forever so it is just turning people's mindsets around to the fact that the older stuff is made really well.
