A new gaming club in Carlisle has said that it is 'hugely excited' ahead of its first-ever meeting.
West Coast Gamers is a new non-profit gaming group that will be launching on Sunday, November 17 when it holds its first open night at Carlisle Masonic Hall.
The new group is the brainchild of the duo Kira Kilgour and Rubin Kent and will invite local gaming enthusiasts to get involved with all their favourties such as Warhammer and Dungeons & Dragons.
The decision to start the new group spawned from the pair's view that Carlisle is in need of more social gaming spaces, with Kira on hand to explain more about her own passion for gaming and desire to create a new space for gamers in the city.
She said: "We have decided as a community that Carlisle needs more locations like this to socialise and play games together.
"Some of the games proposed for our club aren't small enough to set up at home on your dining table and require quite a large space to do so, so we decided to hunt out a large location to enable these meet-ups to happen.
"The city has a multitude of student locations that are craving a nerdy space to be able to mingle at and meet new friends, alongside the growing community of older gamers who have out-grown their current spaces.
"I frequently enjoy playing role-play games like Dungeons & Dragons and personally struggled to find online groups that matched my time zone.
"This club will allow local people to find friends in the area to enjoy such games without hassle."
For Kira, one of the key pillars of gaming is community and she explained her excitement at meeting new people and making new friends within the group.
She said: "We are hugely excited for this club, a lot of hard work and months of grind have gone into setting up this weekly event.
"We want to create a space where everyone feels comfortable attending and our hard work is paying off.
"We are hoping that anyone who has been on the fence about starting a new hobby or wanting to make friends with similar interests will pop down to our opening night."
