CUMBRIA Police are taking part in the national anti-knife crime intensification week, Operation Spectre.

The aim is to tackle and prevent knife crime on streets across Cumbria.

In a post on social media, Cumbria Police wrote: "During this time, Eden Neighbourhood Policing Team will be specifically targeting offenders illegally carrying knives on our streets by utilising plain clothed and high visibility patrol activity, by utilising our stop and search powers where appropriate and making educational visits to raise awareness of the consequences of carrying a knife and highlight the diversionary pathways away from knife crime.

"There will also be a county-wide amnesty between November 11 and November 17 where any knives can be surrendered to your local police station, for destruction."
