PET owners have been advised to contact the coastguard if their dog gets stuck or lost near the coast.
Whitehaven Coastguard has asked dog owners to contact them if this type of issue arises.
It will allow them to safely rescue the animal and also prevent the pet owner or other people from getting injured.
In a post on social media, the Whitehaven Coastguard wrote: "If your pet ends up in need of rescue from the cliffs, coastal structures or the water whilst, at the coast, Coastguard Rescue Teams throughout the UK will conduct Rope Rescue and Water Rescue of your pet also, to save risking human life.
"From Rope Rescue (cliff/structure/vessel access etc), Water Rescue, Mud Rescue, casualty evacuation, vessels in distress, Lost & Missing Persons Searches, suspicious items (ordnance/pyrotechnics), Royal Fish (whales, sturgeons, porpoises, and dolphins), etc, then we’ve got you covered should you need us."
