A resident's preventative actions and intervention by north Cumbrian fire services stopped a building fire from becoming 'very serious'.

Crews from Longtown and Carlisle Fire Stations were called out to a building fire near Roweltown on Monday November 11 at 4pm.

Two members of the crew entered the building in breathing apparatus and used a hose reel and a positive pressure ventilation fan to extinguish 'what could have become a very serious fire.'

The fire was contained in one room which suffered considerable smoke damage and some fire damage. The rest of the house only suffered light smoke damage.

Longtown Fire Station said on Facebook: "This was most certainly in part down to the resident shutting the door to the room and a good intervention by the fire service using some very effective firefighting techniques.

"On our way home we got the opportunity to see this sunset over Longtown. On a day when we remember the sacrifice of so many from our area and beyond, it’s a privilege to be able to serve our community."
