COCKERMOUTH'S wealth of independent shops, pubs and eateries will be throwing open their doors this month for the annual Spirit of Christmas events.
Now in its thirteenth year, there will be late night shopping and music on the streets, with candlelit doorways and Christmas lights bringing a festive sparkle.
Many of the shops offer mulled wine, fizz, mince pies and nibbles to their visitors, while the restaurants and bars will also be open to trade. The events take place on Thursday, November 21 and 28 until 8pm.
Cockermouth Mechanics Band and Cockermouth Ukuleles will perform at the first event, with Castlegate Singers and Cockermouth Ukeleles on the second date, up until 7pm.
Spirit of Christmas is organised by Cockermouth & District Chamber of Trade.
Joe Murray, co-chair of the Chamber, said: “Take a wander around Cockermouth’s pretty streets when they’re lit by the gorgeous Christmas lights and you’re guaranteed to get into the festive spirit.
The town has everything you need – from food and drink to unique gifts, toys and books, as well as all the necessities, like your Christmas dinner ingredients, homewares and hardware, clothes and shoes too.
““Before you leave, you could stop for something to eat or enjoy a pint in the cafes, restaurants or pubs. If you’re planning your festive gatherings, you could even recommend our brilliant holiday accommodation to your friends and family for a winter break.
“We are spoilt for choice in Cockermouth. Have a fabulous festive season!”
