A NORTH Cumbrian cafe that offers a taste of the Mediterranean has celebrated its first anniversary.
Twisted Willow in Wigton is owned by Scott Thain and his partner Constantinos Theophonus and offers Greek and Cypriot cuisine amongst other things.
The business has got off to a good start in Wigton, with the pair saying they offer something a little different from a traditional high street cafe.
Mr Thain said: "Constantinos has always loved cooking and has always wanted to have his own restaurant, as his family had them back in Cyprus.
"We've been in Wigton for about four years now, we had an opportunity to open our own cafe so we did.
"We're a little bit different though, we're not just like a regular cafe as we take influences from Mediterranean cuisine.
"The first year has been good, it was all a learning curve at the beginning as it is for a new business but month after month it's been really good.
"We've got a good client base of regulars, and also new people coming to us because they see through social media what we do.

"We're expanding into themed evenings which might be Cypriot or meze, Italian, curries of the world, and people can come and eat in the evening and get the experience of our food.
"All of our suppliers are local, so we work with butchers and bakers to keep the quality of our food high.
"We moved to Wigton during the pandemic from Lancashire, we fell in love with the house in Wigton and liked the look of the town.
"I think now that we have a cafe, we feel to be more a part of the community and Wigton seems to be growing more as a town."

Scott and Constantinos say they are pleased with the success that they have had and are looking to expand to a second site in the future.
Their next step is to expand the Twisted Willow brand and open a pet shop in Wigton - Twisted Willow Pets.
