A WEST Cumbrian coastguard team has been undertaking a reassessment.
Whitehaven Coastguard has been taking part in a rope rescue reassessment.
This is part of their training schedule which takes place every three years.
In a post on social media, Whitehaven Coastguard wrote: "Last night some of the team turned out to assist four of our rope rescue technicians, as they underwent their three yearly reassessments by one of our full-time senior coastal operations officers.
"After a series of setups, scenarios, and covering various techniques, all four were successfully prequalified.
"The assessment is to confirm the individual proficient use of the various; rescue stretchers, slings, animal bags, setups and techniques, recovery methods, and means by which to rescue the rescuer.
"It also tests methods HM Coastguard deploys to get an untrained resource to a rescue scene where required.
"Such as a vet or animal welfare officer, a medical professional to a casualty requiring more advanced treatment than we can offer, a police officer to a crime scene, or for safe negotiation, a firefighter to a confined space in a vessel or where the likes of cutting equipment are required to be lowered.
"On completion, the team spent time cleaning and undertaking post-user inspections of all the equipment used, to ensure it was once again ready for service.
"Ropes were washed and are in the process of drying before they are repacked this evening. This is all the non-glamours side of search and rescue, which often isn't seen."
