Steven Rigg maintained his impressive goalscoring campaign to earn Workington Reds a point on the road.

He struck twice in a 2-2 draw for Mark Fell's side at FC United of Manchester.

The 32-year-old former Carlisle United and Penrith man gave Reds the lead with a seventh-minute header from a Kai Nugent free-kick in the Northern Premier League Premier Division clash.

FC United quickly hit back in the first half through Jordan Buckley and Adam Le Fondre.

But Rigg stepped up in the closing stages to convert a penalty after Jamie Allen had been brought down in the box, after a second half of strong pressure from the injury-hit west Cumbrians.

The draw, which took Rigg's tally to 12 for the season, saw Reds get another point on the board as they bounced back from the previous weekend's defeat at Gainsborough Trinity.

They sit 15th in the table and are on the road again next weekend when they go to Mickleover Sports. The game also saw a debut for new signing Amadou Doumbouya, with Ruben Grewal getting his first NPL Premier start.

In Northern League Division One, meanwhile, there were defeats for all three Cumbrian clubs.

Penrith fell to a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of North Shields, Lewis Suddick's penalty and a Kyle Downey strike doing the damage in the first half against Darren Edmondson's side.

Carlisle City went down to a 1-0 defeat at Marske United for whom McCorie Carmichael hit the only goal.

And Kendal Town suffered a 1-0 home reverse at the hands of Crook Town, Josh MacDonald's early goal enough for the visitors.

Kendal sit tenth in the table with Penrith dropping to 14th and City now 17th.

Next up for Carlisle City is their Fred Conway Cumberland Cup second round clash with Carlisle United at Gillford Park on Tuesday night.

That comes ahead of a Cumbrian derby next Saturday when City host Kendal.

Penrith are next in action when they go to Newcastle Benfield next Saturday.
