TWO Grade II Listed farm buildings near Penrith could be brought back from dereliction as part of plans submitted to convert them into residential use.
The proposals relate to planning permission and Listing Building consent being sought for two agricultural buildings that form a courtyard with Ivy Cottage in Yanwath.
According to the Heritage Statement submitted with the application to Cumberland Council, the stone exteriors of the buildings would remain aside from the reinstatement of former doorways that had previously been blocked off.
New windows would also be installed.
The statement refers to internal walls being created to subdivide the properties for residential use.
It says: "The proposals would inevitably mean that the features which identify the ground floor rooms as having been used for stabling and as a space for processing crops, would be removed (sandstone flooring, cobbled floor, stall divisions etc).

"Therefore these will constitute a loss of features and characteristics which contribute to its historic and architectural interest.
"In conclusion, it is considered that the proposals would bring back into viable use redundant agricultural buildings and the small cottage, which are all currently vulnerable to decay.
"The proposals will utilise existing openings and reinstate former doorways, the agricultural character will still be clearly visible and the relationship with Ivy Cottage will remain legible.
"The proposals would have a positive impact on the former farm buildings by ensuring their long-term future."
