An artisan gift shop and creative hub in Carlisle is celebrating after marking its second year in the city.
The Emporium was established in November 2022 by Natalie Faunch and Clare Queen-Shaw as a creative hub for local makers and artists to showcase their talents and share their skills with the community.
Over the past two years, it has hosted more than 400 workshops, fostering a thriving community where people come together to connect with like-minded individuals, explore new topics, and develop skills across a wide range of mediums.
And now, the duo have thanked the 'incredible' support of the community in Atlas Works at Denton Holme after marking their second year since opening.
Natalie said: "The support we’ve received from the Denton Holme community has been nothing short of incredible. Getting to know the locals has been a highlight—many stop by for a chat and a brew, treating the shop as a comforting space where they know they’ll always find a friendly face and a listening ear. We believe this strong connection with our community wouldn’t have been possible if we were located in the city centre. Here, it’s truly special.
"The Atlas Works community is like an extended family, where businesses support and look out for one another. There’s always someone ready to lend a hand when needed."
In addition to expanding its art and craft workshops, the shop has introduced mentoring programs for teens and adults in collaboration with Bloom Carlisle CIC, meditation and wellness clubs, and a popular History Club.
Natalie added: "The importance of community and connection, especially in the wake of the COVID pandemic, inspired us to create a space where people can combat isolation and find meaningful support.
"We’re especially proud of our partnership with Bloom Carlisle CIC, which focuses on empowering vulnerable members of society, particularly young people and teenagers not in formal education. Together, we aim to help neurodivergent teens and adults develop confidence, skills, and structure, fostering personal growth and a brighter future."
The Emporium now plans to expand its range of workshops and classes, with daytime sessions for home-schooled children giving the kids and parents opportunities to connect, learn and grow.
