Plans to expand a Penrith petrol station, including an electric vehicle charging zone, have been approved.
The application for Morrisons petrol station on Brunswick Road, owned by Motor Fuel Group (MFG), was approved on November 14 by Westmorland and Furness Council's planning authority.
The approved plans include extending the current sales building, creating an electric vehicle charging zone, installing a substation enclosure, and adding three jet wash bays.
The application also details the creation of a plant room and associated works.
As part of the proposal, the number of parking spaces will be reduced.
Currently, there are 18 car parking spaces.
Under the new plans, the total proposed number of spaces including those retained, will be six.
The extension to the Morrisons retail building would total 72 square metres.
The development is part of a nationwide upgrade of MFG services, which also included Carlisle's Kingstown Petrol Station.
The initial proposal states: "MFG are looking to roll-out an extensive supply of EV charging facilities at existing Morrisons sites across the UK to diversify their existing offer, with the aspiration to make it as easy to charge your vehicle as re-fuelling with petrol or diesel.
"The aspiration of MFG is to provide access to convenient and affordable charging, regardless of where the driver lives.
"As part of MFG’s proposals to upgrade facilities across their portfolio of Morrison petrol filling stations, they are also taking the opportunity to extend the existing kiosk/shop, to provide an improved offer to visiting motorists."
Before the development begins, details of sustainable surface water drainage, foul water drainage schemes, as well as sustainable drainage management plans must be submitted and approved in writing by Westmorland and Furness Council planners.
