FOR this Nostalgia edition we wanted to take a look at National Tree Week.
It is the UK's largest annual tree celebration, where the UK's conservation sector, volunteer groups and tree-lovers come together to plant thousands of trees to mark the start of the tree planting season.
National Tree Week, organised by The Tree Council and partners, brings together the conservation sector, volunteers and tree-lovers to mark the start of the annual tree planting season by trees and hedgerows and celebrating these magnificent mainstays of our landscapes.
National Tree Week date back to 1973 when British parliamentarians Sydney Chapman and Peter Walker launched a campaign to raise awareness about the threat of Dutch elm disease, which was killing a substantial number of trees across the United Kingdom.
The celebrations were initially called Plant a Tree in ’73 and called upon communities across the country to plant as many trees as they could throughout the year.
