Cumbrian Paralympic medallist Anna Nicholson has received further recognition for her feat at Paris 2024.

The Brampton star this week won the Outstanding Achievement award at the annual Sport Newcastle awards.

The accolade comes after Nicholson, 29, threw her way to bronze at the Paralympics in the F35 shot put.

The former William Howard School student, who has cerebral palsy, made it to the podium at her second Paralympics, having finished sixth in the previous Games in Tokyo.

Her throw of 9.44m earned her bronze in Paris.

She was recently given a special homecoming by Cumbrian schools, visiting Houghton CE Primary School, where her sister Katie works, as well as William Howard in Brampton.

And the Gateshead Harrier’s citation at the Sport Newcastle Awards said: “There are few people who can say they have competed for Great Britain and Northern Ireland on the international stage, graduated with a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, and enjoy a career in the car production industry by the age of 25, but that’s exactly what Anna Nicholson has achieved.

“Nicholson qualified for her first Paralympic Games in Tokyo, where she posted a sixth place finish before just missing out on her first senior medal in fourth at the 2023 World Para Athletics Championships in Paris.

“This summer the Gateshead Harrier went one better and secured a sensational bronze medal.”

Nicholson plans to target more success at next year's World Championships, as well as another crack at the Paralympics in Los Angeles in 2028.
