A rivers charity in Cumbria may have come up with the perfect Christmas gift.
In a bid to aid the longevity of their water vole reintroduction programme, Eden Rivers Trust has invited people to adopt one of these adorable aquatic creatures that are ‘making a comeback’.
By adopting a water vole, it will not only help the charity further its ‘mission to make water voles a common sight once more’ along Cumbrian rivers, but also support their wider work to ‘enhance and protect’ the Eden area’s rivers.
An adoption pack costs £20 and helps the charity create and protect homes for wildlife where water voles can thrive, the charity said.
The pack contains a personalised adoption certificate and a photograph of a water vole.

You’ll also get two seasonal email updates about water voles, their habitat, and a behind-the-scenes look at our reintroduction project, and be the first to know about any of the charity’s water vole reintroductions taking place in 2025, Eden Rivers Trust said.
To receive it by Christmas, the charity advises ordering by 9am on December 18.
Orders placed after this time will be processed on January 6, 2025.
