A NEW 180 space staff car park at the Cumberland Infirmary looks set to be approved -as the trust make way for a new Urgent Treatment Centre at the hospital.
The North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust have submitted a planning application for the formation of a new car park and associated infrastructure at the Cumberland Infirmary.
The car park, which would be surfaced in tarmac, would provide 180 spaces, making up for the loss of 80 staff car parking spaces which would be lost by the building of a new Urgent Treatment Centre, after outline planning permission for the new building was approved in September 2024.
An officers report said: "The proposal is seeking to replace the 80 car parking spaces that would be lost by the development of the Urgent Treatment Centre and to provide an additional 100 staff car parking spaces"
27 letters of objection have been submitted in regards to the application , with objectors citing factors such as impact on wildlife habitats, the residential amenity and character of the area .
Officers have recommended that the planning application is granted subject to conditions, which have been recommended in the officer's report.
The final decision will be made at Cumberland council planning committee next Wednesday, November 27.
