PLANS will be decided on a new West Cumbrian Aldi store next week- as the company say they are looking to provide customers an 'improved experience'. 

Plans were submitted to Cumberland council for the a new Aldi food store and associated works on land at Preston Street, Preston Street, Whitehaven

An existing Aldi food store is located about 200 metres north of the application Site, with the store said to have a 'dedicated customer base' within the town.

However the applicant said that the food store has an outdated layout and appearance, the overall customer experience

An officers report said: "The Applicant has confirmed that they have explored a number of options to deliver an improved customer experience at the existing food store for many years; however, there are a number of constraints limiting the opportunities to extend.

"The Applicant has therefore concluded that the only viable route to offering an improved, larger Aldi food store in Whitehaven is by relocating to a new site nearby."

The officers report stated that representations have been received from eleven parties.

Three parties have submitted representations in objection and eight parties have submitted representations in support.

Officers have recommended that the application is granted subject to the conditions, with councillors meeting on Wednesday, November 27 to decide on the plans.
