PARTS of Cumbria have an Amber Weather Warning in place.
The warning for Saturday affects eastern parts of the county while other areas a Yellow Weather Warning is in place.
Storm Bert has brought with it a spell of heavy rain and snow.
Those in Cumbria are likely to expect travel delays, power cuts, delays and cancellations to rail travel, and the closure of rural communities.
A Met Office spokesperson said: "Heavy snow will spread northeastwards on Saturday morning giving significant accumulations, especially on hills.
"Temporary accumulations of 5-10 cm are possible in the Vale of York, with 10-20 cm on ground typically above 200m, and potentially as much as 20-30 cm on hills above 400m.
"Snow will eventually change to rain in all areas by Saturday afternoon, but may be preceded by a short spell of freezing rain in places adding to the ice risk.
"Strengthening winds will lead to drifting of lying snow, with difficult travelling conditions likely on higher level routes, and the risk of interruptions to power supplies.
"A fairly rapid thaw of lying snow is then likely later on Saturday and overnight as milder air moves in."

It is safer to not dive in these conditions, but if you need to make an essential journey people are urged to use other forms of transport.
If you must drive then you are asked to accelerate slowly, keep distance from other vehicles, and use a low gear to go downhill.
If you are expecting a power cut make sure you have torches, a mobile phone power pack, and other essential items.
