A LUXURY scented candle producer has teamed up with the sea cadets to launch a charity candle inspired by the Cumbrian coast.
Lakeland Lights Company, a family-run business in Cleator Moor, has released ‘Spirit of the Coast’ in support of the Whitehaven Sea Cadets.
The candle is said to ‘embody the refreshing spirit of the Cumbrian coast’ and 10 per cent from every sale will be donated to the cadets.
Owners Jo Iles and James Long recently invited members of the sea cadets to their Cleator Moor workshop to add the finishing touches to the ‘Spirit of the Coast’ candle.
Earlier this year, Whitehaven Sea Cadets bought the former Colliery Mission building on Preston Street and proceeds from the sale of the candle will help towards the building refurbishment.
Wayne Jackson, a trustee at Whitehaven Sea Cadets, said: "We are so grateful to Lakeland Lights for choosing us to benefit from the sales of the charity candle, especially as it is inspired by the sea.
“Our cadets were kindly invited up to the workshop recently to help with adding the finishing touches to the packaging so have seen first hand how hard the team have been working to bring the idea to life.
“The money raised from the candles will be a huge help towards our building refurbishment, making sure that we have a safe and fit for purpose facility for young people in the town for many more years to come."
Jo Iles and James Long, co-founders of Lakeland Lights Company, said: "We’re proud to support the Whitehaven Sea Cadets with our Spirit of the Coast candle.
“The Sea Cadets do brilliant work helping to shape the future of young people and if you’re able to, we hope you can support them too. It’s a gorgeous fresh scent inspired by the sea. Available now in our two candle sizes but not as wax melts."
Lakeland Lights Company have supported a number of good causes over the last few years. In 2022, the company launched 'Robin's Brow' candle, in support of West Cumbria's Marathon Man, Gary McKee. It raised more than £1,200 for Hospice at Home West Cumbria and Macmillan Cancer Support.
Building on this success, the 'Heart of the Lakes' charity candle was released last year and has raised more than £1,700 for Hospice at Home West Cumbria.
The company’s wax melt advent calendar project last year supported the essential work of Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team and raised more than £1,900. Due to its success, it will return this year as a limited edition release during the Black Friday weekend in a special charity bundle.
