England Boxing will visit Carlisle next month to make a special presentation to the city’s teenage world champion.
John Joe Carrigan will receive a personalised plaque to mark his recent victory in the Under-19 World Championships.
The Border City Amateur Boxing Club star won the 70kg final in Colorado after defeating Brazil’s Gabriel Dias Dos Santos.
He was one of eight English boxers to win gold at the inaugural championships.
England Boxing are to visit the clubs of all the champions, “honouring their hard work, dedication, and exceptional performances.”
They will visit Border City on Wednesday, December 4 to present Carrigan, 17, with his plaque.
"The club visits serve as a celebration of both the success of the athletes and the vital role played by the coaches, families, and clubs in fostering the next generation of boxing talent," said Chris Connelly, England Boxing’s head of performance.
"This is a fantastic opportunity to strengthen the bonds between England Boxing and the boxing community whilst also taking a moment to pause and acknowledge all the great work that goes into producing champions.”
Carrigan, from Todhills, is already a double European champion and has won a string of national and regional titles.
