Carlisle MP, Julie Minns has met with the environment agency (EA) to discuss the next steps for the city’s flood defences.
£25 million was allocated for new flood defences for the city but the work has not yet been fully completed.
Phase three of the flood defence plan covers the Denton Holme, Willow Holme and Caldewgate area and is set to consist of raising existing defences along the River Caldew along with enhanced maintenance of the river corridor.
Carlisle flood action group have previously passed a vote of no confidence in the EA in 2021 and have asked for a clearer plan for flooding in Carlisle which they say they have not received.

Julie Minns said: “The last Tory Government promised but failed to deliver the defences to protect Carlisle after the devastation of Storm Desmond in 2015.
“Then to make things worse Liz Truss crashed the economy and sent inflation through the roof making it even more expensive to defend homes and businesses from flooding.
“I will continue to press the EA and the government to deliver where the Tories failed.”
