Things to do this winter and new year

A 20-mile walking loop around Ullswater that can be walked in either direction and from any starting point. A little more than a mile and a half from Penrith Castle is Brougham Castle. It features a double gatehouse and the Tower of League, where important guests would stay. The castle is in a pretty spot, located by the River Eamont.
