An upcoming free exhibition will delve into the history of brewing in Cockermouth.

The 'Taste of the Lake District' exhibition will be hosted at Cockermouth's Kirkgate Centre from December 6 to December 16.

Organised by the Cockermouth Heritage Group, the display traces the evolution of brewing in the area, from its roots as a cottage industry to the closure of Jennings Brewery.

Helen Johnston, community projects officer, said: "It’s a great way to explore the history of brewing in Cockermouth and the leading role Jennings Brewery played in the town, both economically and socially."

Curated by Charlotte Fairbairn with help from volunteers, the exhibition will be open every day from 11am to 4pm, except for Sunday, December 8, when it will close at 1pm.

The exhibition opens a day ahead of the Taste Cumbria food festival.

Additionally, the Kirkgate bar will be open during exhibition hours on Saturday from 11am to 4pm and Sunday from 11am to 1pm.

The project has been supported by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Details of the exhibition can be found on the Kirkgate Centre website.
