AN inquest has opened into the death of a Maryport man who collapsed at home after taking drugs.
Jon Jay Thompson, 28, died on August 3, 2024 at his home address on Victoria Terrace in Maryport.
Assistant coroner for Cumbria, Margaret Taylor, said that the incident was reported to the police by paramedics from the North West Ambulance Service, who had received a 999 call saying that Mr Thompson had suffered a cardiac arrest.
During the hearing at Cockermouth Coroner's Court, Ms Taylor said: "According to his partner, on the evening of August 2, the deceased appeared to have been fine and well.

"Some cannabis had been consumed and some pregabalin tablets prior to Jon Jay's collapse."
She said that a post-mortem examination had been carried out, and a cause of death had been offered to her of aspiration of gastric contents and mixed drug use.
Ms Taylor said that due to the 'unnatural elements' surrounding Mr Thompson's death, and inquest would be required, and set a provisional conclusion date of December 17.
