BUSINESSES in West Cumbria are making efforts to promote the High Street in what is a tough time for independent traders.
Cleator Moor Candle Makers Lakeland Lights have just released a limited edition set of candles that support Whitehaven's ever-popular Sea Cadets, while the Flower Basket on Whitehaven's Lowther Street, has teamed up with local photographer Gary Mckeating to stock his Iconic Cumbrian Calendars.
Business owner Gerard Richardson is also keen to promote the High Street, he said: "We have some cracking retailers and small market traders in West Cumbria, and I'd urge people to give them a shot this Christmas before turning to Amazon.
"It's an old story but a true one that the local pound has far more effect on our economy than the one you spend nationally, and locals can also help by sines the shop local or ShopLocalWhitehaven hashtags in their social media posts this Christmas."
