Cumberland Council has announced that Dalston Road will remain closed until February 2025.
The Carlisle Southern Link Road project is not progressing as initially planned due to delays caused by 'a series of unexpected issues' which means Dalston Road will remain closed until early next year.
Cumberland Council has previously said that Dalston Road would re-open in December.
The road is currently closed between Peter Lane and Brow Nelson to enable construction of the new Cummersdale roundabout and footbridge.

A Cumberland Council spokesperson said: "The delays have been caused by a series of unexpected issues out of our control. We are doing all we can to resolve them as quickly as we can.
"We have looked at providing an alternative route along the new section of road adjacent to Peter Lane but this is not possible due to the logistical requirements of the Caldew Crossing Bridge.
"We will continue to do all we can to support local residents and businesses as we appreciate the impact the road closure has. We have installed four electronic matrix boards at strategic locations. These display a ‘Dalston Businesses are open’ message."
