Healing, resilience, and empowerment are the focus of a new group in Carlisle that will help women who have experienced domestic abuse.

Jade Quinn-Middleton, who runs Lady Jade's Zen Den, has set-up the women's circle as a safe space for people to experience different types of emotional healing that focuses on the various aspects of an abusive relationship.

This could be the control, the mental impact, the loss of self-confidence and body awareness, and sexual abuse.

Jade is an experienced massage, beauty, and holistic therapist.

She said: "The idea was just to bring women together who have experienced the same kind of trauma in different ways and give them different techniques that they can use throughout their life to help them release the trauma that they've experienced."

The group will meet weekly for six weeks from January with space for 10 women but Jade hopes to be able to have more than one group running each week.

Jade is a survivor of domestic abuse herself and has gone on her own journey of healing using techniques such as reiki, journaling, and Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) which she will share with the group.

As well as this, women will be able to build a connection and a community with people who have similar experiences to them.

She said: "I definitely believe that by showing your own vulnerabilities, it allows people to feel comfortable to show theirs, which is one of the most healing things that you can do."

If anyone is concerned about the trauma that may arise and experiencing that in front of others, Jade is happy to hold one-to-one sessions so nobody feels put on the spot.

"The biggest thing that sticks in my head throughout my healing is turning pain into power," she said.

"With healing, you can really find your own power from the pain and it's a free space for anyone to come.

"If they do not feel comfortable to share, there is no pressure to share. They can just come and join in, in their own little space."

There will be a free taster session on December 17 at Lady Jade's Zen Den at 35-37 Blackfriars Street between 11am-12.30pm.
