A MAN has appeared in court charged with causing death by dangerous driving following a crash on the A69 near Newcastle.
Ross Neville, 34, appeared at Newcastle Magistrates' Court on Monday (December 2) following a fatal crash on the A69 in Throckley on Thursday (November 28).
During the hearing, Neville, of no fixed abode, was remanded in custody until his next appearance at Newcastle Crown Court, which is due to take place on December 24.
Police and paramedics were called to the busy road on Thursday after a grey Ford Raptor, which was said to have been travelling westbound, came off the road.
Northumbria Police confirmed on Friday that a passenger – a man aged in his 20s and understood to be from Carlisle - was found to have sustained serious injuries and sadly died at the scene.
Neville was subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
The road was closed off for several hours following the incident, with officers launching a full investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Chief Inspector Alan Pitchford, of Northumbria Police, previously said: “This is a tragic incident where a man has sadly lost his life.
“Our thoughts remain firmly with his family and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time, and we will offer them any support we can.”
Ch Insp Pitchford added: “Our officers have launched a full investigation to determine exactly what happened in the moments leading to this collision.
“I would urge anyone who may have information regarding what took place – no matter how insignificant it may seem – to contact us.
“We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have dashcam footage in the moments leading to the collision which could assist our enquiries.”
