A POPULAR Grade-II Listed pub in the heart of Penrith could be receiving a facelift after its owners submitted a proposal for a programme of refurbishment works to council planners.
The Board and Elbow on Corn Market is the subject of an application from pub chain Star Pubs and Bars to Westmorland and Furness Council for new signage, associated lighting, exterior paintwork, and information boards to be placed outside.
These would be an amenity board, brass menu cases, and a board telling the history of the 17th Century premises which was once a wines and spirits business with a 'snug' room.

The snug became known as 'The Elbow Room', before becoming today's Board and Elbow.
The Design and Access Statement says that the plans constitute 'part of a planned full refurbishment of the premises by Star Pubs and Bars'.
The proposals do not currently seek to alter the interior or layout of the pub.
The application is being considered by Westmorland and Furness Council planners.
