AN inquest into the death of a Penrith man who died in hospital on the Canary Islands has opened.
Timothy Simon Ord Davidson, 62, died on November 10, 2024 in a hospital in Tenerife.
Area coroner for Cumbria, Kirsty Gomersal, said that Mr Davidson, who was born in Gosforth, was involved in a 'quad biking incident' in Cape Verde in the Atlantic ocean.
Ms Gomersal said that she has been offered a cause of death by a doctor in Tenerife of multiple injuries, with fractured vertebrae and spinal shock.
She said that as Mr Davidson's death has been registered in Tenerife, it will not be registered in the UK.
As investigations are ongoing into the circumstances surrounding Mr Davidson's death, Ms Gomersal said that she is exercising her discretion to suspend the inquest, with no fixed provisional conclusion date.
