Spotify Wrapped was finally released on December 4, with people across the world sharing their favourite artists and songs on social media.
For the devout Cumbrians out there, who are desperate to add some more local voices to their playlists, here are five prominent bands from the region who all deserve a spot on your 2025 wrapped.
FLYNT: An indie-pop quartet based in Liverpool and Cumbria, FLYNT is known for their energetic performances and catchy melodies. Their single "Julia" received airplay on BBC Radio 1, and they recorded a Maida Vale session as part of BBC's 2021 'Ones To Watch'. Their music blends pop sensibilities with raw undertones, appealing to a broad audience.
Necromandus: Originating from Egremont in the early 1970s, Necromandus was a pioneering rock band discovered by Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath. Their music combines elements of hard rock and progressive blues, and they were hailed as "the second Sabbath" with a prog edge. However, they broke up in 1973, just one year after their album was recorded. The album, Orexis of Death, incidentally wasn't released until 1999.
Striding Edge: A classic Cumbrian ceilidh band formed in 1995, Striding Edge specialises in energised traditional dance music. They perform at various social occasions, bringing friends and family together through memorable ceilidh dances. Their repertoire includes both traditional and original tunes, reflecting the rich musical heritage of the Lake District.
The Northern Threads: Formed in 2016, this band has made significant strides in the local music scene with multiple singles. Their song "Hold Back the Night" is noted for its powerful, driving anthem quality, drawing comparisons to Muse and Queens of the Stone Age. Their music features charming vocals and echo-drenched melodies, making them a standout act in Cumbria.
Fat Dads: An indie-rock five-piece from Carlisle, Fat Dads have been making waves with their infectious tunes and unwavering DIY ethos. Their first four demos garnered attention from Radio 1 and Radio X through word of mouth alone. Recognised as one of the UK's most exciting new bands by indie music tastemakers 'This Feeling', physical copies of their debut EP sold out within 48 hours, reaching fans across Europe and America. Their single "Girlfriend" landed in the iTunes top 20 on its release day.
