WE shared the news that airport bosses confirmed that Carlisle Lake District Airport is amongst their assets up for sale.
Here's how our readers reacted.
Louise Lewis said: "Such a missed opportunity for the City of Carlisle and the County of Cumbria. I wish someone from a successful airline with great experience and business sense would take it on. A huge challenge, I know, but jobs could be created and flights bring in increased tourism to the area."
John Fawcett said: "How many times has this airport been kickstarted? It had its best run in the 1980s when they had flights to Heathrow, I used it a few times back then."
Julie Egglestone added: "Such a shame we went to Ireland from there and it was so easy," while Mike Morris said: "My son flew from there via Ireland to the USA and it was so simple, much easier and cheaper than going to Manchester."
Rob Oliver said: "With its proximity to the M6 and West Coast Rail this airport could easily be suited to air freight rather than passenger transport. Investment and vision hopefully come Carlisle's way."
Nic Barnes said: "It is a big loss to the area and to the tourism of the Lake District."
Karen Thompson said: "Carlisle Airport has so much potential, just needs someone to take over it who knows what they're doing."
