WE shared the news that Carlisle’s historic Grade II listed Turkish baths are inching closer to potentially reopening.
Here's how readers reacted to the opening.
Linda Telford said: "They are a work of art that should be preserved unlike anything else we have seen and they work, we should be proud we still have this beautiful building."
Sharon Hetherington added: "Spent plenty of time in this with my sisters."
Elaine Potter said she would 'love to try it' and Carole Atkinson said: "Listed building so it has to stay, this council has knocked down too many beautiful old buildings or given permission to bulldoze them, time to stop the destruction of beautiful old buildings."
John Atkinson commented: "At last a sensible decision from the council, perhaps a good start at last to try and save the remnants of a once great city."
Diane Elizabeth Thompson said: "It has to stay, part of our Carlisle history. Why not make it a feature and integrate it into the new station plans?"
Sheridan Holmes said: "They should open the train station it's amazing down there and quite scary."
At the full council meeting of Cumberland Council on September 26, the council heard how a working group has been formed with representatives from the Friends of Carlisle Victorian and Turkish Baths charity over a possible community asset transfer.
The transfer will, if agreed, support the charity’s aspirations to develop the baths, reopen it, and make it sustainable by being able to apply for grants.
