A NORTH Cumbrian Argos branch will close early next year.

It has been confirmed that the Argos Extra store in Kingstown, Carlisle, will close in March 2024.

It comes as the retail chain seeks to close more of its standalone stores and focus more on the smaller in-store Argos shops that are seen in Sainsbury’s supermarkets.

Here's how readers reacted.

Aleasha Wallace said: "I hate that everything is switching to online. It's impersonal. Not good for the older generation and probably means in the next 50 years more mental health problems and disconnection from the world."

A web user said: "Hope it doesn't make for congestion and long waits at Sainsbury's outlet. Having an alternative pick-up place has been useful as well as potentially having a second option if items are unavailable. Thoughts are with those whose life will be changed."

Jaime Blythe said: "Unfortunately shops are shutting themselves down. The last few times I have been in for items they have been marked as online only."

Another web user said: "Well it will only drive people to shop online even more. I certainly won’t be getting stuck in a supermarket car park for hours."

Allan Wallace added: "Expected this for a while, last few times we've been in it's been virtually empty, was empty two weeks ago apart from us when we were in."

A web user said: "It is a shame. It's a lot handier than Sainburys. However, it was very quiet on Sunday even though the car park was full and people were queuing to park."
