WE shared the news that the Lanes Shopping Centre in Carlisle has issued a warning after a fake Facebook account promoted a "£32m redevelopment" plan for the site.

Widely shared, the false post claimed plans of a cinema, bowling alley, and laser tag for the site.

Here's what readers thought.

Shawn Berry said: "Might have been fake but it's exactly what this city needs. Major upgrades."

Ste Hastings said: "Knew it was fake straight away. Actually looked like a decent idea as well."

Gemma Murray said: "Would have been nice to get a nice upgrade," and Stacy Dudley commented: "They couldn't even spell Carlisle correctly yet people fell for it."

Jason White said: "It was obviously fake," adding "they can't fill the shopping centre as it is, never mind a bigger one."

David Jarman added: "The minute you saw going to invest x amount should have told you it was a scam."

One web user said: "People really shouldn't be falling for things like this on Facebook. The page was only created the day before and had no other posts. That's before you get onto the fact it was going to be built on a site that has been allocated for something else."
