We shared the news that commercial flights could return to Carlisle Lake District Airport, a meeting of Cumberland Council has heard.

The statement was in response to a question which was asked during Tuesday's (July 9) meeting of the full council at the Civic Centre in Carlisle.

Here's what readers thought.

Christine Dempster said: "Cracking little airport, please reopen," and Catherine Green said: "I flew with Loganair to Belfast City from Carlisle. A lot of students used the service. I would love to see commercial aviation return."

Sheila Small said: "Well I hope it happens, just think of the work for local people."

Jackie Armstrong added: "Great news, fingers crossed", as Justine Fleming said: "Wish it would open, would love to fly from there, so easy and create jobs."

Kev Bimson commented: "I live in Belfast now. I used Logan Air flights on a regular basis to travel home. Was so handy! Better than the ferry or Newcastle Airport. So wish it would reopen."

Stuart Hayton said: "It needs to be a freight hub like East Midlands airport. Think of the jobs it would produce for the local area."

Anita Jeremy said: "About time, I hope it happens."

Rob Hope said: "I'd love to see this happen, I'd certainly use it."

Other readers weren't so sure.

One web user commented: "There is no chance that flights will operate from Carlisle again. No airline is willing to invest in something that is not worth investing in. Logan Air proved this and used Covid as an excuse to pull out."
